My intention as a trainer is to reinforce your connection with all living animals. Those closest to us, our companion animals, hold great wisdom, and they can teach us how to slow down and be present. My work is very hands on and focused on understanding the dog first. Slow, intentional, and patient, I get to know the dog through a slip lead with gentle pressure, guidance, and touch. I focus on loving compassion within my interactions and leave out force and expectations of quick results. Always striving to tune into the dog, feel the dog, and soften my own ego. The first session for one-on-ones or walks always starts with slowly getting to know the dog on leash. Through a structured walk, I feel where the dog is reactive, energetic, driven, excited, fearful, anxious, defensive, timid, etc. Through continued movement and little bits of pressure, I respond to each feeling with calmness and support until we can move through the feeling. This is the basis of the work. There is a lot to be worked on right there, and the rest of training can follow. In training sessions I move on to teaching you the specific leash handling skills to help you guide your dog through their experiences and feelings that cause less desirable behaviors. This naturally develops an attention from your dog that is necessary for the things that come later in training such as off leash recall, a place or stay command etc. We progress at you and your dog's pace. For walks or training sessions we start with a phone call so we can ensure this is the right fit for you and your dog.
